Attending Scholars

Imam Omer Bajwa

Omer Bajwa is the “Coordinator of Muslim Life” in the Chaplain’s Office at Yale. He earned his Graduate Certificate in Islamic Chaplaincy from Hartford Seminary, and has been engaged in religious services, social activism, and educational outreach for the past ten years. He received his MA in near Eastern Studies from Cornell University’s Department of Near Eastern Studies, where he also served as the Outreach Coordinator. He also earned an MS in Communication from Cornell, and a BA in English Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University.

His interests include Islam in the United States, interfaith activities, Islam and the global media, and transnational religious and intellectual networks.  He regularly lectures about these topics and others at campuses, congregations, and communities across the country.

Shaykh Mikaeel

Mawlana Mikaeel (Shaykh Michael Olivieri) was a Puerto Rican growing up in New York when, at the age of 19, his life changed and Allah guided him to Islam. His desire for knowledge grew as time progressed and he decided to travel to Pakistan to study Quran and hadith at Darul Uloom Karachi. He enrolled into an Aalim Course at Ahsanul Uloom, Pakistan. After completing two years in Ahsanul Uloom, he transferred to Jamia Arabia Islamia Azaadville in South Africa. He spent five years there and completed his Aalim Course. He had the opportunity to benefit from great scholars in South Africa such as Mawlana Fadhlur Rahman Azmi, Mufti Saeed Motara and the madresa’s respected Muhtamim Mawlana Abdul Hameed. He is currently serving as the Naazim Taleemat at Darul Uloom New York and teaching various Islamic subjects.
